Tokyo stocks open higher

Tokyo, Sep 25 (IANS) Tokyo stocks rose in the early trading on Friday amid resilient hopes for an imminent US rate hike.

At 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 197.79 points, or 1.13 percent, from Thursday to 17,769.62, Xinhua reported.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 15.78 points, or 1.11 percent, to 1,442.75.

Gainers were led by pharmaceuticals, utilities and insurance.
