Washington, Mar.31 (ANI): Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has said that Pakistan is seen as a problem for the United States because it possesses a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons and cannot assure the rest of the world against its potential use in a conflict situation.
Promising American voters that he was their man to solve the problem of “radical Islamic terrorism”, Trump told CNN in an interview that Pakistan is “a vital problem” for the United States (US) “because they have a thing called nuclear weapons”, and added, “They have to get a better hold of the situation.”
Describing the recent suicide bomb blast in a park in Lahore that claimed more than 30 lives and left many others injured as a “horrible story”, Trump reiterated that he possessed the solution to end such carnages in the future.
“I will solve it better than anyone else running,” he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
When questioned about nuclear security and America’s defence policy, Trump said that although the US has traditionally provided military support to Saudi Arabia, Japan, Germany and South Korea, it may be time to change that policy, as ongoing support of these countries had resulted in a budget deficit for the United States.
For example, he said that Saudi Arabia makes a billion dollars a day from its oil exports, but pays a fraction for militarily support from the United States.
He said that Washington would be better off not spending money on the defence of other countries.
“We can’t afford to do it anymore. We are better off if Japan protects itself against this maniac in North Korea,” he said, referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
He also said that the U.S. policy of preventing other countries from acquiring nuclear weapons would also have to change and added that nuclear proliferation “is going to happen anyway, it’s just a matter of time”.
Alternatively, he suggested, it may be time to “get rid of them entirely”.
“The only global warming I’m worried about is nuclear global warming,” he added. (ANI with inputs)
