Twitter applies for patent to create drone controlled by tweets

Washington, Dec.22 (ANI): Micro-blogging site Twitter has reportedly applied for a patent for a tweet-controlled drone that will be capable of taking photos, shoot videos and transmit them through users’ Twitter accounts.

According to The Verge, while Twitter may not necessarily be planning to build a drone, it could be laying a foundation for a Twitter-controlled UAV.

Twitter mentions a way to use likes, retweets, and replies to control the drone’s direction or what it ends up recording or photographing. It also mentions tele-presence and live video interview capabilities.

This is being seen as an ambitious concept that no other company is publicly considering at the moment.

Twitter has already launched the live-streaming app Periscope. That leaves open the possibility it could use the app in tandem with high-flying drones to capture and broadcast events through its platform. (ANI)
