Two held in Vaughan on attempted murder charge

york policeA restaurant parking lot on Bathurst Street, north of Steeles Avenue in Vaughan, turned into a fight ring on Monday, August 22, 2016, at approximately 10:30 p.m.

A verbal argument began between a single male and two other men, which quickly escalated into a physical fight, York Regional Police said. . The victim was stabbed by one of the suspects during the fight. The suspects fled the area and a witness on scene rushed to provide first aid to the victim.

The victim, a 27-year old man from Thornhill, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The  #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have laid charges  against two men. On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, Dmytro VEREMENKO was arrested in Richmond Hill and was charged with attempted murder. On Thursday, September 15, 2016, Gediminas KEVALAS was arrested in Richmond Hill and has been charged with attempted murder and breach of probation.

“The successful identification and arrests of the individuals responsible was a direct result of the hard work and diligence of our officers in both the #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau as well as officers working in #4 District Uniform patrol,” said Chief Eric Jolliffe. “We remain committed to the safety of our citizens in our community.”
