Lens (Switzerland), July 25 (IANS) Valencia CF had to settle for a 0-0 draw in a pre-season friendly against Swiss second-division club Lausanne Sport.
Valencia coach Marcelino made wholesale changes to the squad he picked for the club’s first tune-up against Galatasaray, giving Cristiano Piccini the start barely 24 hours after the Italian joined the Spanish side from Portugal’s Sporting CP, reports EFE news agency.
Piccini was impressive in his debut with Valencia, who were sharp on the attack but suffered from the physical approach of their opponents.
Another highlight for Valencia during the game here on Tuesday evening was a solid performance by 17-year-old Kangin Lee.
Marcelino shuffled the deck again at the start of the second half, deploying veterans such as Parejo, Racic, and Rodrigo. The changes translated into even more possession for Valencia, yet Lausanne remained stalwart on defence.
Valencia broke through in the final minutes, only for Lausanne keeper Thomas Castella to come up with great stops against Parejo, Zaza, and Rodrigo.
