London, Feb.29 (ANI): Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has spoken out on his on-field theatrical fall during his side’s Premier League victory over Arsenal, saying that he went too emotional while demonstrating what he thought was a dive from Alexis Sanchez.
The incident took place during his side’s 3-2 win over Arsene Wenger’s side at Old Trafford when the Dutchman intentionally threw himself on the ground before fourth official Mike Dean while imitating Sanchez’s dive during the match.
The mockery was treated with cheers from the United’s spectators.
The 64-year-old, however, apologized to referee Craig Pawson and the lineman after the match and admitted that he had to work on controlling his emotions, the Manchester Evening News reported.
Pointing out the constant criticism faced by him for sitting on the bench, Van Gaal stated that he generally doesn’t resort to such behaviour and that his reaction was purely emotional.
Reflecting on fans’ reaction, Van Gaal stressed that fans were not always wise and that their reactions were not always right.
United, which are currently fifth in league standings, will next lock horns with Watford on Thursday. (ANI)
