Vancouver, February 26 (CINEWS): Police announced on Friday that the prolific South Asian bank robber believed to be responsible for nine bank robberies in the last month throughout Vancouver and Burnaby has been nabbed, following a one-month investigation and public appeal by the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section and the Burnaby RCMP’s Robbery Unit.
Police said they received a number of tips after a public appeal was made Thursday afternoon, asking for help to identify a man seen in surveillance photos.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, he was arrested following a robbery at the TD Bank located at 4994 Kingsway Avenue in Burnaby. That was allegedly his 10th robbery.
“With advances in video technology, evidence collection and security measures at banks, it’s not a matter of if you will caught for robbing a bank, it’s a matter of when,” says VPD spokesperson Sgt. Randy Fincham.
“This is just another example of working cooperatively and in a coordinated manner with our policing partners to identify and arrest a suspected prolific offender,” said Burnaby RCMP Superintendent Steph Drolet.
This young man is allegedly responsible for robbing nine banks in recent weeks and never once does his wide grin ever leave his face.
The robberies, which started Jan. 20, have targeted TD, CIBC and BMO banks in both Vancouver and Burnaby, according to police.
In all of the robberies, the man said he was armed with a weapon, police said.
