London, June 30 (ANI): Chile advanced to the Copa America final after outclassing 10-man Peru 2-1 in a pulsating thriller in Santiago, thanks to a brace from Eduardo Vargas.
Vargas put the hosts ahead in the 42nd minute after Alexis Sanchez had hit the post. Peru worked hard for an equaliser before a Gary Medel own-goal shortly after half-time brought them on to level terms, the BBC reported.
However, a few minutes later, Vargas scored the decisive goal from 25 yards to help his side reach the tournament final for the first time in 28 years.
Earlier, Peru defender Carlos Zambrano was shown red card for a questionable challenge on Chile’s Charles Aranguiz in the 20th minute.
Chile, who have never lifted the Copa America title in 99 years of trying, will now face either Argentina or Paraguay in Saturday’s final. (ANI)
