There’s a solid buzz in industry circles that both Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, who are co-delivering the Ittefaq revamp, felt that Varun Dhawan was the best choice for their film to reprise the role by Rajesh Khanna in the first Yash Chopra film.
The role of the psychologically traumatised man on the run being blamed for killing his wife had taken Rajesh Khanna’s profession to the upper level. Any star of today would give his right arm to do a remake of Ittefaq, which B.R Chopra’s grandson Abhay Chopra will be going to direct . Not Varun, it appears. Dependable sources say Shah Rukh offered the part of the hero to Varun, who has referred to date issues as a purpose behind being not able to accept Shah Rukh’s offer.
However the reason could be something else. Sources say that after the Dilwale experience, Varun is careful about doing another film for SRK’s banner. Sometimes, roles get chopped on the editing table, and don’t turn out to be what they were meant to be. Shah Rukh, with more than 20 years in the movie business understands this, and is maybe offering Varun another film, as his way of correcting what happened. “Varun has not said no up ’til now. In the interim, Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra have likewise are also being considered,” says the source.
