Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has been approached for a biopic on Telugu superstar Savitri, who was popular during the ’50s and ’60s.
This will be the third biopic for Vidya. She played the role of Silk Smitha in the blockbuster The Dirty Picture (2011), and Geeta Bali in the Marathi film Ek Albela.
Telugu director Nag Ashwin will helm the film. Apparently, the makers want to bring Vidya on board because she resembles Savitri, and is also fluent in different languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
A source says, “From transforming her looks to learning new dialects – Vidya believes is getting under the skin of her characters. This makes her the first choice for film-makers when it comes to biopics.” The source adds that Vidya is considering the project.
Nag had said, “Apart from Savitri, no other actress in Telugu cinema has earned the title Mahanati (great actress). Her story is quite interesting. That’s why I have decided to make a film on her.” – CINEWS
