Toronto, January 15 (CINEWS): Shuttered Target locations at so many prominent malls across the GTA were eyesores and uncomfortable reminders of the difficult retail environment. Walmart will occupy the space vacated by Target at the Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga. The new 136,000-square-foot Walmart Supercentre will open sometime in 2016 and will employ approximately 250 people, according to release issued by the mall.
Over the past few months the swanky mall has been in the midst of a $100 million dollar makeover.
New stores as well as refurbished areas of the mall was only one part of the transformation. There are more food court choices in an upscale luxury setting.
Walmart will be the mall’s third anchor store, alongside Sears and The Bay, and will offer groceries, electronics, home décor and apparel.
There are fears that having a new Walmart located relatively close to the Collegeway location will harm sales or increase the risk of it closing down in the near future but that is not expected to be the case at all.
