Wanted criminal arrested in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Oct 19 (IANS) A wanted criminal, carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 on his head, was arrested here on Monday along with his accomplice after a brief gunfight, police said.

Feroz alias Pawwa was arrested by a joint team of crime branch and policemen from the Sihani Gate police station.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Yadav said on a tip off that some criminals are in the city to execute a big crime, police in Sihani Gate are began conducted extensive checking of vehicles.

In checking near the Hamdard ground, a vehicle refused to stop and one man inside opened fire at the police team. Police retaliated, and in the exchange of fire, one of the criminals and a policeman identified at Bhupendra were injured but police succeeded in nabbing the criminals.

The injured criminal and policeman were taken to hospital, where the former revealed he was Feroz, an active member of Mukeem Kala gang, and in Ghaziabad to commit a crime. During a check, over three dozen criminal cases were found registered against him in different police stations of Meerut, Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur and Muzaffar Nagar and was also found involved in the multi crore loot at the Tanishq show in Saharanpur.

Police recovered a carbine, two pistols, a double-barrel gun and a huge stock of cartridges along with the car in which the criminals were travelling.

“A case has been registered against two criminals and further investigations are on,” added the SSP.
