York Regional Police Integrated Domestic Violence Unit are seeking public assistance to locate a man wanted following a domestic incident that occurred in a parking lot in Markham and ended with the suspect fleeing from police.
On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, shortly before 10 p.m., York Regional Police officers were called to a parking lot in the area of Kennedy Road and Lee Avenue in the City of Markham. A woman was involved in an altercation with a man. When officers arrived, a 2004, four-door red Pontiac Grand AM, containing three occupants, a man, a 27-year-old woman and a 16-month-old infant, drove towards a police cruiser, causing the officer to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.
Other responding officers attempted to block exits to the parking lot and the suspect vehicle continued to drive at high speeds towards police vehicles, narrowly missing them. Eventually the suspect vehicle drove over a curb and exited the parking lot travelling north on Kennedy Road, west on Highway 407 then south on Highway 400.
Due to safety concerns for the occupants in the vehicle, it was not pursued by police.
On Thursday, August 18, 2016, at approximately 2 a.m., investigators were advised by the Toronto Police Service that the suspect vehicle had been located in the area of Sheppard Avenue and Fairview Mall Drive. The woman and the infant were with the vehicle and the man that had been driving had fled the scene.
The suspect has been identified and an arrest warrant has been issued. Investigators are releasing photos and seeking public assistance for any information on his whereabouts.
