We want to help Delhi government: Jung after HC judgment

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday said the High Court judgment confirming his primacy over the Delhi administration was not about anyone’s triumph or loss.

“It’s just about the validity of Constitution by the court, and not about anyone’s victory,” Jung said here, briefing the media on the court judgement.

Rebuffing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government’s allegation that the LG Office works against it, Jung said: “We want to help the government.”

“We did not approach the court, they (Delhi Government) did,” he said.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday said that the Lt. Governor is not bound by the aid and advice of the Delhi government’s council of ministers. It further added that that Delhi government notifications must be issued after consulting the LG.

In a major setback to the AAP government, court also added that the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) cannot initiate investigation against central government officials.

The court’s judgement came on nine different petitions arising out of the spat between the LG and the AAP government over the power to appoint bureaucrats in the national capital and other issues.
