Filming for the Farhan Akhtar-backed web series, based on the IPL, has begun in Mumbai.
Titled ‘Power Play,’ the upcoming 12-episode web original series starring Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha and Angad Bedi among others, will release and stream on Amazon Prime.
“We are shooting currently for a very exciting project produced by Excel Entertainment. The story takes its inspiration from IPL and will talk about the behind-the-scenes in terms of scandals, rackets and many things,” Vivek said.
Vivek plays a character modelled on Lalit Modi, the first Chairman and Commissioner of the IPL who ran the tournament for three years until 2010. Shortly after the 2010 IPL ended, Modi was suspended from BCCI over misconduct, indiscipline and financial irregularities.
Richa Chadha plays a Bollywood actress who owns an IPL franchise and is also dating a cricketer (played by Angad Bedi). Her character is rumoured to be loosely based on Preity Zinta.
Reportedly, the budget of this upcoming web series is a whopping 75 crores. It is being directed by Karan Anshuman (Bangistan). Shooting is scheduled to wrap up in November. No official release date has been announced as yet.
Vivek’s, 40, character is inspired by the former tainted cricket administrator, says sources. No official confirmation regarding it has come from the makers yet.
Meanwhile, Richa’s character is said to be inspired by Preity Zinta, who co-owns IPL team Kings XI Punjab while Angad’s role is loosely modelled on Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Gulshan will play a cricketer with grey shades. The web series is being shot in Mumbai and it might go on air by the end of this year. – CINEWS
