Premier Kathleen Wynne has issued the following statement to mark World Refugee Day – June 20
“On this day, we think of those who have, as a result of conflict and persecution, been forced to leave their homes and make what is often a long and difficult journey in search of safety and sanctuary. Many refugees have experienced prolonged periods in refugee camps, trauma, violence, and limited access to health care and education.
“As Premier, I am proud of Ontario’s long tradition of welcoming those fleeing war and oppression. As a Canadian, I am proud to carry out our country’s humanitarian tradition. We are a people of compassion — and action. We believe that every human being has the right to live in freedom, without fear of violence or persecution.
“We are ready to help those who come here for freedom and to build a better life for themselves and for their children. As they do, our culture and society are forever enriched.” – CINEWS
