Every year in Ontario the month of June is dedicated to celebrating seniors. June 2016 will mark the 32nd annual Seniors’ Month. This event will have police officers, firefighters and community partners connecting with seniors to share important information about crime prevention, healthy aging, elder abuse, keeping seniors safe and living with cognitive brain deterioration.
This year’s Seniors’ Day event will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Registration is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and the event runs until 3 p.m, at the Georgina Ice Palace, located at 90 Wexford Drive, in the Town of Georgina.
Guests will have the opportunity to see demonstrations by Georgina Fire and Emergency Services, York Regional Police Canine and Marine Units, meet with officers from the Seniors Safety Unit, attend presentations regarding crime prevention, fire safety, traffic and pedestrian safety, emergency preparedness, fraud awareness, fitness tips and more. Community agencies will be available to answer questions about available services in York Region.
The event is free and lunch is provided. Pre-registration for the event is required as space is limited.
