York Police looking for vehicle and suspect in sex assault case

The York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section has  released an image of a vehicle of interest that was captured on video surveillance following a sexual assault that occurred in the City of Vaughan. They are requesting the community’s assistance to identify the owner.

On Thursday, May 26, 2016, at approximately 1 p.m., an 18-year-old female exited a transit bus in the area of Keele Street and Rutherford Road. She walked to her residence which is located nearby. As she was unlocking her front door, a man ran towards her from the sidewalk, pinned her against the front door and sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to fight off the suspect and ran for help. The suspect fled the area on foot.

Residential video surveillance captured an image of a vehicle that was driving in the area around the time that the incident occurred. Investigators are appealing for assistance to identify the owner of the vehicle.

Vehicle of Interest: Mazda 3,  2013 or earlier. White, Dark-coloured decal on the gas cap.

Suspect description: Male, black, 18 to 25 years, 6’, 200 lbs., Short black hair, Wearing a grey T-shirt, black shorts and glasses.
