Young co-founders of new fashion brand make waves

Mississauga, October 16 (CINEWS): In the next few years, get used to hearing about two young women Gargi Ghugare and Mrigini Iyer, who’ve recently co-founded a brand called G aur M. Their strong design aesthetic and close association with various cultures drew them together and proved to be a strong catalyst within their partnership. Born in India, raised in the Middle East, and educated in Canada, both Gargi and Mrigini represent a unique design sensibility that represents the life of a nomad.

Their designs represent an exciting cross-cultural pollination designs that explore different aesthetic principles across cultures and fuses them together.
To say they are ambitious is to put it lightly. They’ve already participated in a few fashion shows and their aim next year is to participate in both the Toronto and L.A. Fashion weeks.
Can-India caught up with <strong class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>Mrigini Iyer. Here are excerpts of that interview.

Tell us a little about yourself and your brand G aur M?
My co-founder Gargi Ghugare and I conceptualized and launched it recently. We are Toronto-based and met in our first year at George Brown College. We look at ourselves as being third culture children as both of us were born in India, raised in the Middle East and moved to Canada when we first started high school. We have many common bonds, which now is a huge influence on our design aesthetics.

When did you decide to get into the world of fashion designing?
Both of us always had an eye for fashion from a very young age and had <strong class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>decided to persue our careers in the fashion industry. We went in as a team during their college fashion show, which at the beginning was just so we could submit more than couple of outfits. We share the same chemistry and that led to us creating our own brand/designer label.

Are you ambitious? Do you have a strong work ethic?
Both of us have an ambitious mindset. In 18 months we’ve showed our collections at local shows like Xposed Fashion Show and at national ones like <strong class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>Vancouver Fashion Week and <strong class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>international ones like Washington DC Fashion Week. We design, create, craft and produce our own collections in-house. For each collection, we spend an incredible amount of time where sometimes all night to perfect these designs at our studio. We also give new graduates an opportunity to learn and
experience the works of the industry in order to enhance their skills.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Participating in various <strong class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>international and national fashion weeks, having our clothing line sold in big department stores and spreading our creativity around the world! In the near future, we hope to show our designs at Toronto Fashion Week as well as few highly regard US national shows.
