2 new Vaxx Pop Ups to boost vaccination efforts within Peel’s Muslim community

Two Peel Vaxx Pop Ups will launch this week to boost the vaccination efforts within the Muslim community during the month of Ramadan. The clinics at the Brampton Islamic Centre (6 Lowry Dr., Brampton) and MAC Islamic Community Centre (2550 Dunwin Dr., Mississauga) will run from April 30 to May 11 and are projected to deliver 14,000 doses of vaccine.

Individuals over at 18 who live in the following hot spot postal codes are invited to book an appointment:

· L4T, L4W, L4X, L4Z
· L5A, L5B, L5C, L5K, L5L, L5M, L5N, L5R, L5V, L5W
· L6P, L6R, L6S, L6T, L6V, L6W, L6X, L6Y, L6Z
· L7A, L7C

Appointment bookings will be available for the clinics above starting today at https://peelregion.ca/coronavirus/vaccine/book-appointment/.

Appointments are extremely limited and demand is expected to be high which may cause issues with the registration system, official, Peel Health Services spokesperson Trish Krale said in a statement.

Peel Vaxx Pop Ups are available to those age 18 and over in neighbourhoods at higher risk from COVID-19.

The two clinics mentioned above are being launched in partnership with the Ontario government, the Muslim Association of Canada, the Brampton Islamic Centre and others including the Canadian Muslim COVID-19 Task Force.

Additional Peel Vaxx Pop Ups serving hot spot communities will open throughout the month of May.

“We have now delivered almost 500,000 COVID-19 vaccines to the most vulnerable in our community, including 70% of those over age 60,” said Dr. Lawrence Loh, Medical Officer of Health, Region of Peel Public Health. “We are thrilled to be enabled by vaccine supply to enhance our mobile clinic strategy and open new Peel Vaxx Pop Ups within neighbourhoods to reach our hardest hit communities.”

“By offering vaccination in trusted spaces close to home, in partnership with community groups and the provincial government, we will improve access to those with barriers,” he added.

Those who are eligible and able are encouraged to go to peelregion.ca/covid19vaccine to book an appointment at Peel’s 11 fixed site vaccination clinics. Vaccination is also available at select pharmacies and primary care providers across Peel for those age 40 and over.
