Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey is ready to make a comeback to the silver screen with the movie, ‘1242 – Gateway to the West’, which will be available to buy at the Cannes Market this year.
This is the Spacey’s first major role since the sexual assault allegations were made public in 2017.
As per a report in Deadline, Kevin Spacey is a confirmed member of the cast for ‘1242 – Gateway to the West’ which will be on sale at Cannes market.
The movie is the story of Genghis Khan’s grandson, Batu Khan, who was the commander in chief of the Western part of the famous Mongol empire.
Batu Khan is a skilled military commander who won battles across China and Persia and was given the responsibility to invade Europe but in the year 1242 Khan comes across a castle in Hungary and a spiritual man, which halts his invasion and eventually causes his downfall.
This is Kevin Spacey’s biggest feature since 2017, when the actor was accused by several people that he sexually harassed them and made inappropriate and unwanted advances.
The film also stars Eric Roberys, Terence Stamp, Christopher Lambert, and newcomers Genevieve Florence and Jeremy Neumark-Jones. The movie will be directed by Peter Soos, a Hungarian filmmaker with Joan Lane and Aron Horvath writing the script.
The principal photography for the movie will start in October 2022 in Mongolia and Hungary. Kornel Sipos and Bill Chamberlain are the producers attached to this project. Istvan Bodzsar, Norman Merry, Tim Smith, Carlos Alperin, Csaba Iski and Paul Brett are executive producers for this film. Mongolian co-producers for this movie are Battushig Batbold and Bayar Banzragch.
For the unversed, in 2017, around 20 anonymous men accused Kevin Spacey of sexual misconduct between the period of 1995 and 2013 when he was with the Old Vic Theatre in London. ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ actor Anthony Rapp also said that Spacey made an inappropriate advance towards him when he was only 14. At the time Spacey was 26 years old.
Following the deluge of accusations, Spacey was dropped from his lead role as Frank Underwood in the massively popular Netflix series, ‘House of Cards’. He also found himself replaced by Christopher Plummer in ‘All The Money In The World’, a Ridley Scott feature.
Since then, Kevin Spacey was nearly blacklisted in Hollywood and it is only recently that he started making appearances in indie movies like ‘The Man Who Drew God’.
