Actress Taapsee Pannu essays Indian hockey player in ‘Soorma’

Directed by Shaad Ali, ‘Soorma’ will hit the screens in June 2018.

Actress Taapsee will soon cast her magic on the silver screen by portraying the character of a hockey player.

Actress Taapsee Pannu, who has proved her calibre with films like ‘Naam Shabana’ and ‘Pink’, is now gearing up for her next titled ‘Soorma’, a biopic on the life of Sandeep Singh, ex-skipper of India Hockey Team.

The actor had said, “Shaad Ali’s film is a biopic shown from a love story perspective. It is a very commercial and young film.”

“I am playing a national level hockey player in the film and the character is based on a real person. The girl existed but we are not disclosing who she was as of now. I am really excited for that,” she added.

Based on the life of former Indian national hockey team captain, Sandeep Singh.

Field hockey star Sandeep Singh indeed has had quite a chequered career.

He was accidentally shot in 2006, just before he was to leave for the World Cup in Germany, and had to spend two years of his life in a wheelchair.

But Singh, who made his international debut in 2004, bounced back and went on to captain the national team. Under his captaincy, the Indian team won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009.

The film, directed by Shaad Ali, will have singer turned actor Diljit Dosanjh playing the ace hockey who’s also known as one of India’s greatest drag flickers.–CINEWS
