After ‘Dhaakad’ failure, is Kangana’s next ‘Tejas’ heading for OTT release?

Kangana Ranaut’s latest release was the action spy thriller, ‘Dhaakad’. For unknown reasons, the movie failed to establish any form of connection with the audience and after an abysmal opening weekend, soon disappeared from the screens within a week.

Now it seems that Kangana’s next release ‘Tejas’ is nearly ready and only has a few more portions left to film but rumours and speculations are abundant that after the box office failure of ‘Dhaakad’ the makers of ‘Tejas’, RSVP are rethinking their release option and considering whether or not they should release the movie directly on OTT itself.

Speaking about this, an industry insider reportedly spoke to Bollywood Hungama and said, “Post Dhaakad the makers of Tejas have decided on reshooting certain portions of the film to avoid making a similar mistake. Besides this, given the recent box office turmoil, or rather the past record of Kangana, RSVP feels that Tejas will fare better if it features a direct to OTT release.”

When asked about the details of the movie’s release, the source said, “Ronnie Screwvala and the RSVP team working on Tejas are still brainstorming about a direct to OTT release, they are yet to lock a platform and date. But currently the general consensus is that an OTT release will be beneficial to all parties, producer, actor and director. They do not want to be caught surprised with a similar box office fate as Dhaakad and would want to secure their commercials.”

That being said, the portal later also reached out directly to the makers, RSVP, and they denied this development entirely. As per RSVP, the movie is still slated for a theatrical release in October 2022. The production house refuted the rumours and said that while it is true that some scenes need a re-shoot, it will be done soon and the movie will be completed in time for an October 2022 theatrical release.

The movie ‘Tejas’ is set in 2016 and tells the story of a brave female fighter pilot in the wake of the decision of the Indian Air Force to recruit women for air combat roles.
