Actor Alexis Bledel, who was previously well known for playing ‘Rory’ in the popular series, ‘Gilmore Girls’, carved quite the name for herself playing the character of Emily/Ofglen in the acclaimed series, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’.
Bledel has been one of the important characters in the series since the first season until the fourth season. The show has been adapted from the iconic novel by Margaret Atwood of the same name. The series has been created by Bruce Miller.
Now, Alexis Bledel has announced that she will not be returning to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ for the show’s fifth season. Speaking about her exit, Bledel said, “After much thought, I felt I had to step away from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ at this time. I am forever grateful to Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to the cast and crew for their support.”
While Bledel’s most popular show was ‘Gilmore Girls’, her other acting credits include, ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’.
Bledel though has won an Emmy award for her role as Emily (a refugee and escaped handmaid in Canada) also known as Ofglen when she lived under the totalitarian rule of the government of Gilead.
Towards the end of the fourth season, it was seen that Bledel’s character Emily, joins hands with June (Elizabeth Moss), the lead of the show as well as other handmaids as they set out to seek revenge in Gilead. The makers of the show haven’t as yet announced the premiere date for the fifth season.
