Peel police have arrested a 19-year-old man in relation to a homicide in Brampton.
On August 13, last year, emergency services were called to a residence on Treeline Boulevard in Brampton where they found Sangita Sharma, a 56-year-old woman, suffering from a gunshot wound.
After a lengthy investigation, Peel police identified Fiseha Girmay Habtegabir, a 19-year-old man from London, Ontario, as the alleged murderer.
Habtegabir was arrested on Friday, with the assistance of London Police, for First Degree Murder and held for a bail hearing. He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Saturday.
Chief Duraiappah said, “Sangita Sharma’s death was the tragic outcome of a callous act of violence. It carried deep impacts on her loved ones and our community. While we are pleased to share that this arrest has been made, we believe there are others responsible for her death. We are committed to ensuring they do not escape that responsibility.”
The investigation is continuing to identify additional suspects. Police are still searching for a connection between the suspects in London and the victim in Brampton.
