Marvel’s latest superhero offering will be hitting the theatres on May 6, 2022. This will be the second movie of the ‘Doctor Strange’ franchise in the MCU and it has garnered the most amount of attention when it comes to speculations and rumours about possible cameos and appearances.
Rightly so, as the movie talks about the multiverse, which opens up the possibility of so many crossovers and reprisal of old characters. Fuelling these rumours was the confirmation from Marvel that Patrick Stewart, who played Professor X in the ‘X-Men’ franchise will be a part of the movie.
Marvel fans have been waiting for an MCU-X-Men crossover for ages and the new ‘Doctor Strange’ movie is finally making it happen.
The other strongest rumour is about Tom Cruise playing Iron Man, rather starring as a variant of Iron Man in one of the universes.
Several fans claim they spotted him in the teasers and trailers of the movie. Now, the main lead of the movie, Benedict Cumberbatch has addressed these incessant rumours about Tom Cruise and whether or not he is in the movie.
In a recent interview with Indian Express, when Benedict was asked if Tom Cruise is in the movie he said, “Tom Cruise? Yeah, he is in every scene you haven’t seen in the trailer. It is the biggest kept secret.”
That was a good sarcastic jibe from an actor who is likely tired of responding to countless rumours and fan theories. But the actor said that he felt the MCU movies truly belonged to the fans and speaking about the fan theories he said, “I try not to react or go to the internet but I, in person have had some very pleasant times with an amazing amount of very enthusiastic people at various gatherings. You know, this franchise belongs so much more to them (fans) than it does to us. So, in a way, that is its own thing. But I love the idea that people are so excited to see this film. And it’s got great pre-sales and we are so well supported in this amazing, sort of long-form serial storytelling that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is. So, I am very grateful for that.”
Besides, Tom Cruise, the other unconfirmed and unsupported rumours state that the movie has cameos from Ryan Reynolds as ‘Deadpool’, John Krasinski as ‘Mr. Fantastic’, Halle Berry as ‘Storm’ and Tobey Maguire as ‘Spider-Man’.
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ has been directed by Sam Raimi and is part of the Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will release in theatres on May 6, 2022.
