For an upcoming historical drama project, ‘The Hood’, ‘Doctor Strange’ star Benedict Cumberbatch will be teaming up with director Paul Greengrass, who rose to fame after directing the ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ in 2004.
Greengrass has since made other popular movies like ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ (2007), ‘Captain Phillips’ (2013) and ‘United 93’ (2006), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.
Benedict Cumberbatch was also recently nominated for Best Actor for his performance in the movie, ‘The Power of the Dog’. He was also last seen in the super successful ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, which released in theatres at the beginning of May 2022.
As per a report in Deadline, Cumberbatch has found his next project, ‘The Hood’, which is a historical period drama which will be directed as well as written by Paul Greengrass.
This will be Greengrass’ first movie since the 2020 released, ‘News of the World’. Cross Creek Pictures is associated with this movie as producers and financiers. Other cast members and release date information on the movie is yet to be released.
The story of ‘The Hood’ is said to revolve around a peasant uprising in England that occurred sometime in the 14th century and it follows a farmer (Cumberbatch) who becomes the face of the rebellion as its commander.
Early reports on the movie suggest that this is an action drama along the lines of ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Braveheart’.
Director Greengrass is well known for using handheld cameras, something he used a lot in the Bourne movies and it is believed that he might use a similar tactic to bring to life the characters and the story of ‘The Hood’ and this actor-director collaboration of Cumberbatch and Greengrass is considered to be a ‘once-in-a-generation’ partnership.
