Actor Bhumi Pedhnekar in a media interaction once shared that she was thrown out of a film school and it completely changed her life. This incident happened when she was 18 years old and she was studying at director Subhash Ghai’s Institute, Whistling Woods in Mumbai.

Bhumi Pedhnekar made her debut in 2015 with the movie, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, a role which bagged her the Best Debut female award at the Filmfare that year.

However, before she started acting, she worked as a casting director at Yash Raj Films for nearly six years.

On her birthday, which is today, July 18, let’s look at an older interview of Bhumi where she talked about how she got started and what motivated her to get to where she is today.

Back in 2019, Bhumi spoke about how her mother had taken an education loan to enroll her in the film institute so she could take acting lessons. She shared that initially her father was not aware of it. Bhumi then recalled that while she paid off the loan by herself, she actually started working within 18 months of being thrown out of the film school.

In her interview with Mint, Bhumi said, “In Bombay in (classes) XI and XII, nobody studies. They are only sitting and eating vada pav. I was thrown out for my attendance. I was just partying away. I am glad I was thrown out because that day, I was shaken. I was like, my father is p****d off, my mum trusted me and I f****d up. That’s when someone told me, in Yash Raj Films (YRF) they are looking for an assistant casting director. Once I started working in YRF, I realized that’s what I wanted to do. I worked very hard but I had no idea what I was doing. I was 18!”

Her work with YRF led to her getting her first break and Bhumi’s talent did the rest. Today, she is an established performer and a mainstay in Bollywood.

On the work front, Bhumi’s next release will be the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Raksha Bandhan’, which releases in theatres on August 11, 2022. She will also be seen in ‘The Lady Killer’ along with Arjun Kapoor. This is her first time sharing screen space with the ‘2 States’ actor.

Apart from this, Bhumi Pedhnekar also has ‘Govinda Mera Naam’, ‘Bhakshak’ and ‘Bheed’ in her kitty.
