SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ has been a much-hyped, much-anticipated film. This is Rajamouli’s next offering after the massively popular blockbuster hit, ‘Bahubali 2’.
‘RRR’ is all set to release in cinemas worldwide tomorrow, March 25. ‘Bahubali 2’ has already set a massive record that too in the Bollywood box office by earning a whopping Rs 510.99 crores when it released.
Therefore, the expectations from ‘RRR’ are high. More so, because the cast of this movie also includes Bollywood’s very own stars Alia Bhat and Ajay Devgn.
‘RRR’ already has a better connect than ‘Bahubali’ in that respect because ‘Bahubali’ had only south cinema mainstream actors and still managed to score big at the box office.
Bollywood Hungama caught up with some film trade analysts to ask them how they think ‘RRR’ will fare given that so far, the advanced booking for the movie has been underwhelming
The trade analysts though, were still optimistic about the chances of ‘RRR’ and felt that despite not many advance bookings, the movie could have a massive opening weekend.
Analyst Taran Adarsh said, “Yes, the advances are slow but I genuinely feel that it might just pick up with spot booking on Friday. S S Rajamouli is a brand. Today is Wednesday. Wednesday is when the momentum begins.” Another trade expert, Komal Nahta also said that guessing a movie’s performance from advance booking is not the right indication. The movie could still see a good opening.
Akshaye Rathi who is a film distributor and exhibitor also agreed and said, “If you look at it, for many successful films, it’s the current bookings that have made the difference and taken them to great statures. Underestimating the opening of a film like RRR would be a gross mistake because here’s a filmmaker, who time and again, without any exception, has proved himself in a setup that is as massively spectacular as it gets for Indian films. So, I am pretty hopeful that RRR would do extremely fantastic business.”
The analysts were also asked if ‘RRR’ will be impacted by ‘The Kashmir Files’ which released on March 11 and is still seeing a steady stream of audience in the theatres. The movie has so far earned Rs. 200 crores.
Before both movies released it was assumed that ‘RRR’ will negatively impact ‘The Kashmir Files’ but as the scene goes, ‘The Kashmir Files’ has already upset the performance of ‘Bachchan Pandey’ which released a week later. However, it seems now that ‘RRR’ could be the one to be impacted.
To this the trade analysts said that, while nothing is certain, the negative or positive impact will depend on how well the audience receive ‘RRR’. Taran Adarsh said that Rajamouli has always made movies keeping his audience in mind, so it is unlikely that the movie will not do well.
Finally, circling back to whether ‘RRR’ can beat ‘Bahubali 2’, Adarsh ended by saying, “Coming back to your question, when Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion released, did anyone expect it’ll do a business of Rs. 510 crores? When 3 Idiots (2009) was released, did anyone predict that it’ll go past the Rs. 200 crore mark? So, let’s wait and watch. Content agar accha hoga aur agar picture pasand aa gayi, then anything can happen. Down South though, all records will be shattered.”
‘RRR’ will release in cinemas worldwide tomorrow, March 25 and it will be simultaneously released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
