Chris Evans is a global star thanks to his portrayal of Captain America for the MCU movies. He played the human super soldier in 9 movies of the MCU spanning across more than a decade.
He first made an appearance as Captain America in the MCU movie, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ which released in 2011 and he finally ended his stint as the super soldier in 2019, when he handed over his shield to Sam Wilson in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
During a recent chat, Chris Evans spoke about the role he wouldn’t mind reprising again and MCU fans would be disappointed to know that he did not choose his most popular MCU role which he essayed for over a decade.
He, however, did choose another Marvel character – his role as Johnny Storm in ‘Fantastic Four’. For the unversed, Captain America was not the only Marvel character that Chris Evans has played. A few years before the MCU and its dozens of movies happened, Chris Evans played the role of the human torch in ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’. The movie released way back in 2007.
In an interview with MTV News, Chris Evans shared the role he wouldn’t mind playing again and he said that he wouldn’t mind going back to play Johnny Storm (Human Torch). Speaking about it, Evans said, “God, wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that be great?”
He added further and said, “No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old.” Chris – while stating that he loves the character, said, “but I think… aren’t they doing something now with Fantastic Four?”
During the same interview, Evans also spoke about why it was better for him to return as Johnny Storm than Steve Rogers. The ‘Avengers’ star said, “I would love it. I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and, you know, who knows.”
For those who didn’t follow Marvel movies back then, even as Johnny Storm, Chris Evans played the role in two movies – ‘Fantastic Four’, which released in 2005 and ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’, which released in 2007. After Evans, the character of Johnny Storm was brought back to life on the big screen by actor Michael B. Jordan who played the Human Torch in the 2015 movie, ‘Fantastic Four’.
