Chris Rock: “I’m not talking about the slap until I get paid”

Comedian and actor Chris Rock has been in the headlines along with Will Smith ever since the controversial slap incident that occurred on March 27, when Will Smith walked up on stage during the live Oscars event and slapped Chris Rock across the face for making a hurtful joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith and her bald head (which is a result of an auto immune condition called Alopecia).

Even though Will Smith later went on to win his first Oscar ever, that too for Best Actor, the Hollywood actor has been facing grave consequences for his misconduct during the awards ceremony.

Chris Rock on the other hand, has maintained a dignified silence over the incident and has won the hearts of billions across the world for how he has conducted himself despite the humiliation he suffered in the hands of a fellow actor. He even refused to file a complaint against Will Smith, something he was within his rights to do.

While all the world and its neighbours had an opinion on who was in the wrong or who was right in the incident, Chris Rock has refrained from making any comment but it looks like the comedian can no longer escape the curiosity from his fans and followers who cannot wait to hear what he has to say and how he feels about the incident.

Following the slap during the Oscars, Chris Rock performed in Boston for a show and the only thing he said that was that, he was still “processing what happened that night” so if anyone wanted to hear about that, he had nothing.

Recently, though, the comedian performed in California and while he went about roasting politicians and celebrities, as is his style, he only subtly referenced the slap at the Oscars and was very careful from taking any names or mentioning anything about the incident directly.

During his show, Chris said, “I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good. I got my hearing back.” When he concluded his show, he received a standing ovation from the crowd.

While Chris Rock is clearly trying to move past it by making light of what happened, Will Smith has been under fire from fellow actors, stand up comedians and the Academy. He voluntarily resigned from his membership at the Academy. Even so the Academy felt that they needed to discipline him further so at a board meeting convened on April 8, it was decided that Will Smith will be banned from attending all events of the Academy, including the Academy awards for 10 years.

The actor posted a statement saying he accepted the Academy’s decision.
