Christoph Waltz roped in for ‘Billy Wilder & Me’ adaptation

Hollywood actor Christoph Waltz is all set in the movie, ‘Billy Wilder & Me’, helmed by Christopher Hampton and Stephen Frears.

The movie has been described as a coming-of-age story and is also partly true-to-life portrayal of Hollywood’s Billy Wilder. This movie is said to be an adaptation of the book authored by Jonathan Coe.

As per reports, this movie is the third collaboration between Frears as well as two-time Oscar winning screenwriter Hampton. Their previous two collaborations being ‘Cheri’ and ‘Dangerous Liaisons’.

Billy Wilder was regarded as one of the most versatile and brilliant filmmakers of classic Hollywood movies and has directed classics like ‘Irma la Douce’, ‘The Lost Weekend’. He also directed Marilyn Monroe’s ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘The Seven Year Itch’.

The official synopsis of the movie reads, “In the summer of 1977, an innocent young woman begins working for famed director Billy Wilder and his screenwriter Iz Diamond on a Greek island during the filming of Fedora. When she follows Wilder to Germany to continue the shoot, she finds herself joining him on a journey of memory into the heart of his family history.”

Christoph Waltz who starred ‘Inglorious Bastards’ and ‘No Time To Die’ said that playing Billy Wilder was like a dream come true role for him.

The veteran actor spoke about the movie and said, “Billy Wilder said ‘You have to have a dream so you can get up in the morning’. A Stephen Frears movie from a Christopher Hampton script produced by Jeremy Thomas should do the trick for me.”

The production of the movie is set to commence in Munich, Greece and Paris.
