‘Deadpool 3’ will make fun of Marvel movies; writers say “everyone’s fair game”

Hollywood’s motor mouth superhero, the inimitable ‘Deadpool’ is all set to make a splash on the big screen for the third time in 2023. But this time, the superhero will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool’ is well known for not pulling any punches, and having a lot of fun at the expense of popular culture figures. ‘Deadpool’ as a superhero loves ‘roasting’ and so many fans wondered whether ‘Deadpool’, as part of the MCU would start poking fun at fellow MCU characters and it seems the writers have addressed this much asked query from Marvel fans.

‘Deadpool 3’ writer Rhett Reese was recently part of the Post Credit Podcast and there he spoke about whether the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ superhero will make jokes on fellow MCU characters and co-stars and to this he said, “How many movies have they given us? 25? 26? 28? Something like that. We have a treasure trove of things to poke fun at now… and Deadpool’s an equal opportunist so everyone’s fair game.”

Rhett and his co-writer Paul Wernick said that even though ‘Deadpool’ had crossed over into the MCU, the movie, like the previous two versions will remain R-rated and the writers are not toning down any risqué jokes.

The writers reportedly told Den of Geek, “Don’t worry about that, they’ve been very supportive with regard to that. “Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.”

Ryan Reynolds’ first ‘Deadpool’ movie released in 2016 and it was an instant hit making $782 million. The movie was made on a budget of a little over $58 million.

‘Deadpool 2’, which released in 2018 was a critically acclaimed as well as being a commercial success and it grossed over $785 million.

While ‘Deadpool’ is a Marvel comics character the movie rights for it belonged with 21st Century Fox up until recently and therefore the first two movies did not see any cross overs or appearances from other Marvel characters. Supporting characters from X-Men did make appearances in ‘Deadpool’ though.

However, since Disney bought Fox, ‘Deadpool’ can now be produced by Marvel Studios and so the third movie is officially an MCU movie. Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role once again for the third instalment, but for the first time as a Marvel superhero.
