Pixar Animation Studios has revealed some more details about its 27th film, ‘Elemental’, which is slated to release on June 16, 2023.
The movie will be directed by Peter Sohn and it shows the journey of an unlikely duo – Wade and Ember, in a city where fire, land, water and air residents all live together. The easy-going man and fiery woman are about to learn about something elemental – do the two of them have anything in common?
‘Elemental’ is an original film that is apparently inspired from Sohn’s childhood spent in New York City. Speaking about the movie, director Sohn says, “My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx. We were among many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams—all of us mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to ‘Elemental’.”
He further states that his story is based on the classic elements of nature – water, fire, land and air. Sohn further adds, “Some elements mix with each other, and some don’t. What if these elements were alive?”
Peter Sohn’s directorial credits include, ‘The Good Dinosaur’, ‘Partly Cloudy’ while producer Denise Ream has been part of movies like ‘Cars 2’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’.
It seems like ‘Elemental’ will be using the idea of different elements and will subtly address the story of race along with the long-held beliefs of how some elements just don’t ‘mix’ well.
The movie is slated to release in cinemas on June 16, 2023.
