Fundraiser held to end violence against Peel Region

Over the weekend, Interim Place hosted its third annual Purple Tie Luncheon that casts the spotlight on men who are counted upon to help end violence against women.

This annual fundraiser event goes a long way toward supporting Interim Place’s programs and services.

Here are a few sobering statistics that should make Peel residents sit up and take note. Eight of the 148 femicides in Canada occurred in Peel Region. Half of all Canadian women have experienced physical or sexual violence, and 29 per cent Canadian women have been assaulted by a partner.

Another initiative requiring a great deal of funding is Interim Place’s Youth Violence Prevention Strategy.

Any woman in need of counselling and support are invited to contact Interim Place’s 24-hour crisis line at 905-403-0864. -CINEWS
