Actor and academy award winner, William Hurt, passed away on March 13, 2022. His son, shared the news in a statement from the family. He said, “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father, and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”

While he has a large body of work and impressive awards, here are a few things about late actor William Hurt that everyone should know

Won an Oscar

William Hurt not only worked in over 50 movies in a career spanning over 40 years, but he has also won an Academy Award for one. In the year 1985, William took home the Oscar for his performance in the movie, ‘Kiss of the Spiderwoman’ where he played a gay prisoner. It was a drama set in Brazil, during the dictatorship era

Nominated for Oscar 4 times

Not only has William Hurt won the Academy Award for Best Actor, but in the 80s he was also nominated three times, that too for three consecutive years. It started with his nomination for ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’, this was followed with his nomination in 1986 for ‘Children of a Lesser God and finally he was nominated in 1987 for ‘Broadcast’. Later on his life, he received a fourth nomination for David Cronenberg’s film noir ‘A history of violence’. He was nominated for best actor in a supporting role.

Nominated for a Tony Award

William was not just an accomplished Hollywood actor. He was also reputed in the drama circles and was well known as a stage actor. He has starred on Broadway too and in 1985, he received a Tony nomination for his Broadway play ‘Hurlyburly’ which was inspired from Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’.

Julliard’s pass out

William completed his acting course in 1976 from the well-known Julliard’s School in Manhattan and graduated from their drama division along with other famous classmates like Robin Williams and Christopher Reeves.

He was in the MCU movies

The millenials may not have known who William Hurt was, as most of his accomplished work happened in the 80s and 90s. However, William is a recognizable face for the youth as well because of his appearance in Marvel Movies. He first appeared in Marvel movies as General Thaddeus in ‘The Incredible Hulk’. He continued playing the general in a total of 5 Marvel movies – ‘The Incredible Hulk’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers : Infinity War and Endgame’ and finally he reprised the role for the last time in Scarlett Johansson’s standalone Marvel movie, ‘Black Widow’.
