India’s grandest award celebration night, the IIFA awards (International Indian Film Academy and Awards) was all set to delight fans the world over in May 2022. Every year the award is hosted at an international location and in 2022, the location for the awards is Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
All the plans were in place and Bollywood stars were ready and prepped to fly out this week as the awards were originally supposed to be held on May 20 and May 21, 2022 respectively.
However, last week the President of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away and as per the law in UAE, the state observes a 40-day mourning period.
Given that IIFA announced that they would be postponing the awards to July 2022. However, yesterday, May 17, IIFA announced once again that they have decided to prepone the awards and now instead of July, the awards will be held in June 2022.
Making an official statement, the IIFA said, “The World’s biggest celebration of Indian cinema, the 22nd edition of IIFA Weekend and Awards- kicks off powerhouse return with optimism and popular demand. Uniting the world to showcase cinematic excellence, IIFA is pleased to confirm the finale new dates of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th June 2022 at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi (and not in July as our previous communication mentioned).”
The first rescheduling of the awards following the demise of the President of UAE was set between 14 and 16 July, 2022. Now, the awards will be held in the first week of June.
IIFA 2022 has roped in Salman Khan and Riteish Deshmukh as hosts and the highly anticipated event promises a night of glitz and glamour with the biggest names in the industry walking the red carpet and dazzling audiences with their performances.
