Things are getting better in Malton’s as far as getting around has two major MiWay routes have been improved.
Beginning July 1, select routes going through Malton provide more service hours, better transit hub connections, direct routing, and reflect the city’s transit service plan.
Among the many improvements is the 11A Westwood-Nashua and 11B Westwood-Darcel routes that will be merged into 11 Westwood while the A and B variants have been removed. The route will then continue along Goreway Drive and Dundas Street West.
Route 12 Rexdale has been cancelled and replaced with Route 30 Rexdale. It will provide Saturday service and direct connections between Westwood Square, Woodbine Centre and Malton GO, with extended service to Islington Avenue and Bergamont Avenue.
Route 30 Rexdale is a result of combining Route 30 Woodbine and Route 12 Rexdale.
Additional service hours introduced are expected to provide all-day service Monday to Saturday and improved connections to Malton GO trains.
There will also be direct connections between Westwood Square, Woodbine Centre, Malton GO (during weekday rush hours), Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard.
Schedules have been revised, a full list is available at miway.ca/servicechanges.
Malton is home to a large number of newcomers and international students who don’t as yet own cars. Getting around the GTA is a matter of crucial importance and these service improvements will go a long way to helping them become more productive and perhaps keep them from buying a vehicle as long as they live in Malton. -CINEWS
