Jacqueline Fernandez has carved a space for herself in Bollywood. The 2006 Miss Universe winner from Sri Lanka has a number of successful films under her belt, including, the ‘Housefull’ franchise, ‘Kick’ and ‘Brothers’. She also has an upcoming release, ‘Bachchan Pandey’ where she shares screen space with Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon and Arshad Warsi.
Recently she appeared on Shilpa Shetty’s new show, ‘Shape of You’ as a guest and while chatting with Shilpa, the Sri-Lankan actress got brutally honest about her eating struggles when she was young and confessed that she had eating issues.
Jacqueline was only 19 when she won the Miss Universe pageant and she revealed that during those days she used to punish herself for eating and at one point, she genuinely felt that food was her enemy.
In the episode, Shilpa asked Jacqueline if her food habits changed when she was stressed or anxious. In response, Jacqueline said, “In my 20s I did go through quite a lot of eating issues. A lot. It happened because of my pageant days, I did not realise then but to be appearing on an international platform at the age of 19 (had its own pressures). That is when the pressure really got to me; I did not know how to handle it. Food became the enemy. That then continued in my 20s and continued when I became an actor, being in front of the camera.”
Speaking further, Jacqueline said, “Like I would worry about how I am going to look in front of the camera. It was like you would punish yourself for eating. But, I was blessed that I was able to overcome it. Slowly, it took time. There would be times when I would be go for months and would be okay and then something would happen, and I would go back into the habit. I was quite horrible actually, but it was definitely something that made me stronger and much more aware of food.”
During the show Jacqueline Fernandez also revealed that an actor (she didn’t say who) once told her to “Be like Shilpa Shetty”, when they found out that Jacqueline was very picky about the food she ate on film sets.
