Jada Pinkett Smith hopes husband Will Smith and Chris Rock “heal and reconcile”

Jada Pinkett Smith has finally openly spoken about the altercation between her husband Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars night. She said that she hoped the “two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, before the premiere of the Wednesday, June 1, ‘Red Table Talk’ on alopecia, Jada Pinkett Smith spoke about the Oscar incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock.

On the latest episode of the ‘Red Table Talk’ Facebook Watch show, she said, “This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”

Speaking about the Oscar slap incident, she added, “Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” she added. “The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

For those who don’t know, during the Oscar live event, when Chris Rock was on stage to present an award, he made an unsavoury joke about Jada Pinkett Smith and her bald head, which angered Will Smith so much that he walked up on stage and slapped Chris Rock.

A short while later, Will Smith went on to win his first ever Oscar for ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ for his performance in the movie ‘King Richard’.

However, following the incident, Will Smith faced a lot of heat and criticism, prompting him to apologise to Chris Rock as well as voluntarily resign from the Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences.

In addition, the Academy also deemed it necessary to dole out further disciplinary action and so they banned Will Smith from attending any and all Academy events including the Oscars for 10 years.

As per Hollywood Reporter, in the ‘Red Table Talk’ season premiere episode, there was a message which appeared on the screen. It read, “Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.”
