Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS) Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Thursday termed as “hasty” the demonetisation move of the Narendra Modi-led central government and said it would hold demonstrations demanding solution from the present “economic mess”.

“It is a hasty decision without an adequate back up plan. We will hold demonstrations asking for a solution from the present economic turbulence,” Jamaat’s West Bengal unit President M. Nuruddin told media persons here.

“The marginalised and minority community in the nation are mostly working class people who used to deal in cash. It is thoughtless of the central government that they are trying to create a cashless economy without creating the proper infrastructure and training those who are languishing,” he said.

The Jamaat has decided to hold a series of campaigns to promote communal harmony and highlight the importance of human rights in the society to celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary and the International Human Rights Day on December 10.

The members of the Islamic organisation would strive to spread Prophet Muhammad’s philosophy on peace and communal harmony at various parts of the nation and also participate in several social welfare activities between December 9 and 23.

“We feel a part of Muslim community is deviating from the true ideals of Islam and choosing the path of violence and extremism that demeans the entire community. During the campaign, our representatives will spread the true ideals of prophet Muhammad and engage in various welfare campaigns like providing clothing and books to the poor.

“We will also meet patients and prisoners to uplift their morale,” said Nuruddin.

He also said the Jamaat representatives would take part in central government’s cleanliness drive ‘Swaach Bharat Mission’ as Islam asserts, “cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
