Jason Momoa cast in Warner Bros. ‘Minecraft’ movie


‘Dune’ star Jason Momoa is all set for another stint with Warner Bros. The actor is apparently in final round negotiations to star in the Warner Bros. live-action adaptation of ‘Minecraft’.

As reported by The Hollywood reporter, director Jared Hess will be helming this movie which is based on the popular all-time favourite video game.

The producers of ‘Dune’ – Roy Lee and Mary Parent will be producing this one as well and Jill Messick will receive a posthumous producer credit for developing the movie before her death, which happened in 2018.

The executive producers on board this movie include, Cale Boyter, Jon Spaihts and Jon Berg. The videogame comes from Sweden’s Mojang Studios and Vu Bui and Lydia Winters from Mojang will also be producing this movie.

The video game ‘Minecraft’ which debuted in 2011, allows players to create various structures and worlds using blocks. The game is a smash hit sensation and hit 100 million users within a few years of its launch.

Mojang was acquired by Microsoft in 2014 for a whopping $2.5 billion. Warner Bros. have been in the development phase for a movie project based on the game for several years now.

Gaming movies seem to be a hot and popular trend the last few years. In 2021, 20th Century launched the hit franchise video game based movie ‘Free Guy’ starring Ryan Reynolds. Paramount Studios also found success with their ‘Sonic’ sequel which released in March 2022.

Jason Momoa and Warner Bros. have Aquaman and The Last Kingdom’ due for release in March 2023. The movie is the sequel to the extremely popular $1 billion grossing 2018 movie, ‘Aquaman’.
