Kevin Feige, Marvel President was nervous pitching to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield about ‘Spider-man: No Way Home’

Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios  and also Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer has revealed that he was actually quite nervous when he approached Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to ask them if they would be willing to reprise their Spider-man roles for Marvel’s third Spider-man installment, ‘Spider-man: No Way Home’.

In a behind-the-scene featurette Kevin Feige described how fun it was once he started to pitch the film to the actors and trying his best to make it worth their while to reprise a role they hadn’t done in a long while.

He said in the initial meetings he gave the actors a concept idea of how their respective re-incarnations of Peter Parker would be in Marvel’s ‘Spider-man: No Way Home’.

In an interview with CBR, Kevin said, “I had butterflies in those meetings with Tobey and Andrew, hoping that they would sign up.”

But it looks like he needn’t have worried. Whatever he said in the pitch was clearly convincing as both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield signed up to be Peter Parker once again. It must be noted that the last time Maguire played Spider-man was in 2007 for ‘Spider-man 3’ while Andrew Garfield’s ‘The Amazing Spider-man 2’ released in 2014.

In the featurette, the director Jon Watts also elaborated on the thinking process of bringing all 3 Spider-men together. He said, “The idea that they are all the same thing and they could all come together…that, to me, felt like it was part of the DNA of the story”.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’ was a 2021 pre-Christmas release and it hit the box-office jackpot by being the highest grossing movie of 2021, the third highest domestic grosser domestically (it surpassed James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’), it was the sixth highest grossing film of all time, the highest grossing ‘Spider-man’ film as well as the highest grossing Sony film.
