New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a Bill by voice vote to include more tribes in Karnataka Scheduled Tribes’ list.
Replying to a debate on the Bill, Union Minister Arjun Munda said the government was determined for welfare of Scheduled Tribes and the Bill was a step in that direction.
The Bill, passed by the Rajya Sabha during the Winter Session, seeks to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka.
It seeks to include Parivara and Talawara tribes in the ST category to ensure reservation and other benefits to them. The Siddi tribe of Belagavi Dharwad would also be included in the ST category apart from those living in the Uttar Kannada districts.
The Karnataka government had recommended inclusion of Parivara and Talawara trines as synonyms to the ‘Nayaka’ community appearing at serial number 138 in the STs’ list in the state.
