‘Game of Thrones’ first aired in the April of 2011 and ended in May 2019, after a run of eight seasons.
The HBO series was a massive success and it catapulted all the central characters of the show (which were many) into instant fame.
One of the popular characters on the show was the fearless and dangerous Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams. She was only 12 during the first season, so it is safe to say that she grew up on the sets of the popular fantasy period drama.
In a recent interaction with the international magazine GQ, Maisie Williams was asked about her ‘Game of Thrones’ character Arya Stark and if she missed playing that role anymore.
The actress was quick to respond and said that she does not miss playing Arya Stark at all. Maisie was asked what did she miss most about playing Arya Stark and she said, “Can I say none of it? I don’t think it’s healthy [to miss it], because I loved it. I look at it so fondly, and I look at it with such pride. But why would I want to make myself feel sad about the greatest thing that ever happened to me? I don’t want to associate that with feelings of pain.”
She elaborated on why she did not like her character Arya during a certain period in her life. Maisie said, “I think that when I started becoming a woman, I resented Arya because I couldn’t express who I was becoming. And then I also resented my body, because it wasn’t aligned with the piece of me that the world celebrated.”
‘Game of Thrones’ was adapted from the George RR Martin novel, ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ and besides Maisie, features actors like, Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage, among others. Such was the popularity of the show, that soon HBO will be releasing its spin-off, a prequel, titled, ‘House of the Dragon’.
