Mississauga to host Ontario Parasport Games in 2021

In 2021, Mississauga will be the proud host of the Ontario Parasport Games in 2021, bringing up to 400 athletes from around the province to compete.

The announcement made on April 16 at the Paramount Fine Foods Center, allowed up to 100 students from eight local high schools the opportunity to participate in parasports such as wheelchair basketball, sledge hockey, seated volleyball and wheelchair rugby.

The event is hosted in hopes of boosting awareness of parasports in local schools. Parasport athletes led each sports event by teaching students the basics of the sport as well as how to officiate a game. Each participating school paired up with a para-athlete and competed in a tournament.

Mayor Bonnie Crombie who was present said: “An inclusive community gives everyone an opportunity to shine. The Ontario Parasport Games will help highlight Mississauga’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive programming for all. I look forward to welcoming these young athletes from across our great province in 2021.” -CINEWS
