‘Moon Knight’ premiere: 1.8 million viewership in the US; second highest after ‘Loki’

Moon Knight’ is Marvel’s latest web series on Disney+. The opening premiere viewership of the show is the second highest for an MCU Disney+ show.

‘Moon Knight’ which stars Oscar Isaac in the lead is a live-action series which managed to draw in more viewers when it premiered than Marvel’s other popular web series – ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Hawkeye’ when they premiered.

MCU Report tweeted that, “#MoonKnight first episode currently has a rating of 9.1/10 on IMDb which makes it the highest-rated first episode out of all the MCU Disney+ shows released so far.”

Here is the tweet:

The post also shows the IMDB rating of the premiere episode of each show. ‘WandaVision’ got a 7.4; ‘Loki’ got an 8.7; ‘Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ got a rating of 7.6; ‘Hawkeye’ also got 7.6 and the ‘What If…?’ Series got the lowest rating of the lot – 7. In comparison to all these the clear winner is ‘Moon Knight’, which received a 9.1/10 rating on IMDB.

As per a report on Deadline, the five-day premiere of “deeper universe protagonist Moon Knight” earned a viewership of 1.8 million households. This number is a tie with the “first-frame draw” of Disney+ Marvel’s ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’, and it higher by 20 percent over the same number of days for ‘Hawkeye’.

So far, the only show that tops the list is ‘Loki’ which pulled in 2.5 million viewership. ‘Moon Knight’ has impressive viewership figures in other parts of the world too.

When compared with ‘Hawkeye’, ‘Moon Knight’ was viewed in 277K households in UK, while ‘Hawkeye’ got 199K; 88K households in Germany, ‘Hawkeye’ got 63K. Only in Australia the figures are close with ‘Moon Knight’ being viewed in 11K households and ‘Hawkeye’ in 10K households.

This was a first of sorts for Marvel as ‘Moon Knight’ is an origin story. The rest of the shows centered on characters that audience were already familiar with from MCU movies. With ‘Moon Knight’ Marvel is venturing into characters who have so far only been in the comic world.

With only the first episode being aired, ‘Moon Knight’ is proving to be yet another feather on Marvel’s already fluffy hat.

‘Moon Knight’ stars Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke and is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar with new episodes released every week.
