Peel launches awareness campaign about impact of provincial cuts

A new public relations campaign to raise awareness about the impact of provincial funding on public health and paramedic services.

“The Region of Peel is informing residents of how $6.1 million in provincial cuts to health services could impact their property tax rates and the delivery of paramedic and public health services,” according to a press release put out recently.

Residents are asked to visit and send a pre-written statement via email to their MPP.

According to the region, the provincial government has cut $4.9 million from Peel Paramedic Services and $1.2 million from Peel Public Health for 2019. The province has also indicated their intention to merge Peel Public Health with three other health units. Integrating paramedic services in the province has also been discussed.

Peel’s population is expected to climb to 1.8 million by 2031 and any cuts at this point could have a serious impact. -CINEWS
