Peel suspends spring garbage exemption period

The spring garbage exemption period (originally scheduled from June 14-25) in Peel Region has been suspended in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is being done to minimize manual collection and ensure worker safety, while maintaining services for the long term.

Meanwhile up to two excess garbage bags will be allowed until June 25 on your garbage collection day. While no tags are needed for the additional bags, more than two will not be collected, spokesperson Sangeeta Sundaresan said in a media statement.

Bulky item collection will continue every garbage pick up day.

If residents must leave their home to dispose of extra garbage bags, they can take it to any Peel Community Recycling Centre (CRC), where disposal fees will apply. The CRCs only accept credit/debit payment, not cash. Check peelregion.ca/waste for CRC locations and hours of operation.

Residents are also encouraged to check the website for information or sign up to receive free weekly waste notification reminders.
