Priyanka: I stand here humbled, enriched and committed

Priyanka Chopra is the latest A-lister to be named as a UNICEF global Goodwill Ambassador.

On Monday evening, the Quantico actress was appointed to the position at UNICEF’s 70th Anniversary celebration at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

“My involvement with UNICEF began almost 10 years ago in India. Today, I stand here humbled, enriched and committed, because of it. Thank you, UNICEF, for the amazing journey so far as well as this huge honour,” said Chopra, 34.

“Along this decade old journey, with UNICEF, I have been on many field trips to villages and centres across India. On those trips, I spent time with numerous young girls and their families and experienced firsthand the transformative power of empowering young girls with opportunities that are rightfully theirs,”

Chopra, who celebrated her appointment alongside Ambassadors David Beckham and Orlando Bloom, continued. “Together, with my fellow, dedicated ambassadors, I am now proud to stand with UNICEF to help build a world where children’s rights are respected and protected.”

The actress has served with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund in India, where she has been a longtime girls’ rights advocate.

Chopra joins a long list of celebrities who have held the position as a Goodwill Ambassador, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Selena Gomez, Joel Madden, Pink, Lucy Liu, Alyssa Milano and many more.

Priyanka Chopra  has now been announced as the UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador to promote child rights.

Priyanka struck a particularly chic figure among the famous names who’d gathered at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

The 34-year-old posed alongside David Beckham, who presented her with Unicef Goodwill Ambassadorship during the evening’s festivities, said The Daily Mail.

Added The Daily Mail: Pear-lined pleated short sleeves mirrored the pleated bottom section of her navy, hammered satin Prabal Gurung dress. Tightening about her enviably slim torso, the bias-cut outfit featured a hem that’d been cut off high enough to showcase the Quantico star’s navy stilettos.

Meanwhile, the designer said Priyanka’s dress is by Prabal Gurung, a label whose famous fans include Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller, Margot Robbie and none other than Michelle Obama; so Priyanka is in good company!

The actress wrote, “Can’t believe it’s been 10 years! Honoured to now serve as @UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador along with this amazing group #ForEveryChild.”

“Thank you @davidbeckham and @milliebobby_brown for inducting me into the @UNICEF global family. Always delighted to meet likeminded people who believe that there is humanity left in us after all. And @milliebobby_brown you were a superb host tonight… congratulations on the #GoldenGlobesnod #foreverychild.” – CINEWS
